Podocarpus oblongus

Type: Indonesia, Maluru, Aroa, Kobroor Island, Dosinamalaoe, in primary forest, 1938.05.17, P. Walda 4988 (holo L; iso A, BO, K, NY, S). Holotype at L, with scanned herbarium sheet; accessed 2023.01.23. Syn. Podocarpus rumphii var. aruensis Silba (2000). Each of the 6 specimens cited by de Laubenfels (2015) had previously been attributed to some other species in the Podocarpus neriifolius complex. This species has not been evaluated using molecular methods. See P. neriifolius for taxonomic notes on the 17 species in the P. neriifolius complex.
Trees to 27 m tall. Crown, bark, twigs not described. Foliage buds globular with overlapping scales. Leaves linear-oblong, 100-170 × 14-27 mm; narrowing abruptly at base, apex broad-acute or slightly acuminate. Upper (adaxial) midribs "prominent", 0.7 mm wide; lower midribs not described. Pollen cones sessile in groups of 1-3, mature cones not seen. Seed cones on 9-19 mm peduncles, subtended by 2 foliola 2 mm long, receptacles 10-13 mm long; seed within epimatium ovate, 12-13 × 7 mm (de Laubenfels 2015).
Indonesia: Maluru, Papua Barat; the southern part of New Guinea's Vogelkop, and islands to the south, at low elevations (de Laubenfels 2015). Known from only 6 specimens.
The IUCN has not evaluated this species with regard to conservation status.
